The Earth Observation Center (EOC) is a facility of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA), and is located in Hatoyama City, Hiki District, Saitama Prefecture, Japan. Ever since its opening in 1978 as the office of former NASDA (National Space Development Agency of Japan), it has handled the receiving and recording of Earth observation data from satellites, the processing of data correction, the storage and management of data and their provision to users, and has played an important role in the promotion of satellite remote sensing.
RESTEC has been actively involved in the duties of Earth observation utilization at the EOC ever since it's opening. Currently, the amount of stored data totals up to 3.5 million scenes; with the steady state observation utilization of the Advanced Land Observing Satellite "Daichi" (ALOS) beginning this year, the importance of EOS is increasing. RESTEC, with its observation technology, will contribute to the duties of Earth observation under contract to JAXA by further cultivating its observation technology that branches out to many areas. |
