What is the "Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR)"
SAR is the radio wave imaging radar which provide with a high resolution
images seen by radio wave. The resolution is kept even from the satellite
altitude.
Since the radio wave passes through cloud, it makes images behind cloud
cover even at night.
Several SAR systems are on European earth observation satellites and
on a Canadian satellite. In some science mission, SARs were on Space
Shuttles. Japanese satellite, JERS-1 ("Fuyoh" is the nick name taken
from flower's name), also carried a SAR system.
You can purchase data from RESTEC at a reasonable price.
What is the merit to use SAR image reconstruction software?
Original data of the SAR is a kind of hologram from which you can not
find a desired scene. It is converted into a image through a vast amount
of data processing. Though you can purchase either the original data
or processed image data of JERS-1 SAR from RESTEC, the price of the processed
images are very high for amateurs to afford. But the price of the original
data which covers a scene is low. So you can save money by producing
images from the original data. The author of the processing software
intends young students to be interested in satellite images through "process
image data yourself". So the software is uploaded as a freeware. You
can use the software freely to produce SAR images from JERS-1 SAR original
data.
What is the machine to run the programs
The programs run on Windows, Power Macintosh or UNIX (Solaris 2.4/2.5).
Processing Time
You can produce one scene 22km by 47km in an hour on 233MHz
Pentium II Processor.
How to use
Refer to the user's manual sheet.
Let's start!
Make your town's images with SAR data.
Find a street!
Look at your home!

e-mail.
For specialists
Presently, the software produces only real data type images. Soon new
version to produce complex images which can be used repeat pass interferometry
will be uploaded.
Information
Remote Sensing Technology Center of Japan continues to disclose
our programs for analyzing data received from a satellite to
our users. At same time, we are registering your analyzing programs
to share with the other users. If you have any programs you want
to register or any comments on using registered programs in our
program library, please contact us to wbmaster@restec.or.jp by e-mail.
(Only free ware. The commercial purpose sample and share ware
cannot be registered. )
